Vera Hotel

I'm a 24-year local of the Charleston SC area and was absolutely stunned when I found this gem of a hotel on Folly Beach which was perfect for the occasional staycation. The hotel is musically themed with full-size posters of legendary artists. The rooms I have stayed in thus far on the 3rd and 4th floors appear thematic, from classic rock to hip-hop. The hotel is spotless from entry to exit (the cleaning fee is worth it - I have never seen a hotel this clean and you know how most chain hotels have less than desirable upkeep). Beds are super comfy with body size pillows galore. Plenty of room for guests to visit with a diner-style booth and spacious porch with couch and fan. Baths are also roomy and have a powerful corner fan, perfect in the summer when it seems AC can't be cool enough. Lots of open clothes hanging space, TVs with Music Choice and full cable channels, and a giant glass fronted fridge to store an entire cooler's worth of goods. And if you need any provisions, a 24 hour convenience store is just steps away. Of note, parking is a premium on Folly so be aware the parking is limited to 1 vehicle per guest room and located about a half-block away with quick beach access to and from the lot. There is a 15-minute load in/out space in front of the building. And 'coming soon' per their signage will be a full bar and cafe space just to the right of the entrance. If you are not insistent on being beachfront and would rather be closer to the main access off the island, this is your spot. I myself will be reserving here for all of my future staycations. We only stayed one night, but the room was perfect for our needs. Loved the balcony and parking was just a short walk away. Would stay here again without hesitation.

My fiancé and I went right after we got engaged and had a wonderful time. The room was perfect for the two of us and the hotel was decorated so cool. Everything was clean and felt very safe. Good distance to the beach. We loved the easy walk to food and stores nearby. Would definitely love to go again!

Loved the location and the room … super clean… bed was super comfortable with great pillows … close walk to all of the shops and restaurants. Loved the large walk in shower! Will definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay at Vera Hotel last weekend! We arrived to find the heat at the perfect temperature during a cold snap. The space was roomy and comfortable, especially the bed and pillows. We walked right next door to Lowlife Bar & Restaurant and enjoyed some live music and a few cocktails. 5-Star experience, will definitely be back soon.

Overall this was a really unique stay. I liked the location, the bed, the bathroom, the storage, and the comfort level. Location: Great location right off the causeway near a bunch of other rentals, bars, restaurants. It is adjacent to a gas station and High Life bar which was a bit loud (As described in the room listing), but it quieted down around 10pm. Service: No one is on site, which we knew going into it. Everyone I emailed with was kind and it felt like if there was an issue, it would be promptly attended to. Parking: one parking space is offered a block or so away. There is also street parking if you want to try that. Accommodations: The room felt like a comfier hostel to me. Booth seating, lots of thoughtful touches for the traveler - towel hooks galore, two luggage racks, plenty of towels. AC and Heat both worked, fans and dehumidifier were unique to account for the humidity. Bed: Firm, as others have noted. The sheets were comfortable. Better than a standard hotel. I would recommend staying in the 01 stack of rooms, seems like it would be the quietest and have the best view of the tree to block the gas station. Keeping my review at 5 stars because I don't think Folly has many accommodations like this (quick stay, 2-person) and we had absolutely no issues, but my two slight negatives that could be improved are: 1. There is no key required to get into the elevator or hallway space. With no one on-site and no lock, it felt a bit exposed. In theory, it is no different than a motel where your personal door is directly accessible to the outside world, but the fact that you do have to go "inside" to get to your room, felt odd. Folly is safe and I wasn't worried, but it was just odd to have a hallway and elevator that are just accessed by a door. Again, our room was secure. 2. When I booked, I received 8 separate emails, not exaggerating. Rental agreements, credit card receipt, access code, two external emails (one for access and one to just view my agreement, I think?), and then a few others. All of them had good information, but it was just overwhelming. Trying to find the access code, parking info, check out time, etc. was like sorting through a maze of emails.

Great new place on Folly!! Well kept , clean and everything needed in the room . Beds are comfortable but if there was a full couch on that porch I would have slept there , beautiful breeze and you can hear “the sounds of Folly” Keep it up! We will be back

Stayed here for a night during our stay in the area and didnt regret it. Easy check in and the location was a walk away from everything. easy 8 min walk to the beach also. The circle k next door was convenient also. AC and bathrooms were great. Loved our time here.
